Jamo® D 600 THX® Ultra2 Series: Bringing Big Theater Sound Home

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (January 14, 2010) — The world’s best movie theaters offer high quality THX® sound. Now, Jamo® brings that incredibly dynamic audio experience to home theaters with the D 600 THX Ultra2 series.

This highly advanced loudspeaker system consists of D 600 LCR left, center and right speakers, D 600 SUR rear surrounds and the D 600 SUB subwoofer. Unlike many THX systems, the D 600 THX Ultra2 is designed as a 5.1 system; a second subwoofer is not required to deliver accurate low-frequency THX audio.

The D 600 THX Ultra2 home theater system cabinets have a uniquely contemporary, graphic style that fits elegantly in modernly furnished homes. As good as they look, however, the real story is their performance. Few speakers meet the exacting THX Ultra2 cinema standard; these versatile performers are certified for exacting film soundtrack performance, but are equally capable at reproducing music tracks precisely as they were created.

The D 600 LCR is a 3-way closed design loudspeaker with two 6.5-inch woofers, two 3-inch midrange drivers and a 1-inch DTT tweeter, for clear, uncolored high frequencies.

D 600 SUR surround speakers feature a 3-way closed dipole design, with one 6.5-inch woofer, two 3-inch midranges and two 1-inch DTT tweeters. Conventional dipole speakers often provide poor bass reproduction, due to phase cancellation between their two woofers. By having only one woofer mounted in the middle of the cabinet, the D 600 SUR eliminates any cancellation effect to deliver full-spectrum sound. Identical drivers in the LCR and surround speakers provide the ideal balance and truly lifelike sound.

The 1600-watt D 600 SUB is an active 15-inch subwoofer in a sealed MDF enclosure. Motional feedback technology eliminates errors in woofer movement caused by strong sonic impulses, resulting in dynamic, detailed reproduction of even the lowest bass sounds. A touch interface allows users to select from a variety of settings.

According to Steen Michaelsen, Jamo director of marketing, the D 600 Series is the first product to aim for new European energy-saving standards. “Our aim is a standby power consumption of less than one watt, which is the new standard for 2010. The new, lower standby level will save consumers approximately $20 per year.”

The D 600 LCR left/center/right front speaker, D 600 SUR dipolar surround speaker and D 600 SUB will be available at select Jamo retailers this spring.

Jamo D 600 Series technology:

Motional feedback (MFB): When a large woofer is abruptly driven by a strong sonic impulse such as an explosion or the sound of timpani, it continues to move after the impulse stops. The MFB circuit compares the impulse to be reproduced with the actual movement of the woofer—if it moves unnaturally in relation to the input signal, the MFB circuit corrects the error before it becomes audible. Motional feedback also makes it possible to equalize the subwoofer to go deeper without losing precision, resulting in incredibly powerful, accurate bass.

Decoupled Tweeter Technology (DTT): DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology) is a mounting system specially developed by Jamo. Often, unwanted cabinet vibrations “cloud” or color the sound. High frequencies are particularly susceptible. By decoupling the tweeter from the rest of the loudspeaker, vibrations transmitted from the front baffle to the tweeter are reduced by more than 20dB, resulting in an uncommonly detailed and realistic reproduction of high frequencies.

Jamo® D 500 THX® Select2: Incredible THX Sound, Remarkable Size

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (January 14, 2010) — Until now, true THX® sound required a large dedicated room to accommodate the oversized speakers…and their often less-than-attractive cabinets. Jamo® D 500 THX Select2 home theater speakers bring the full THX experience to smaller rooms, with their compact size and stylish good looks.

The D 500 THX Select2 system consists of the D 500 LCR left, center and right speakers and
D 500 SUR rear surrounds. To complete a first class THX 5.1 system, the D 6 SUB is the ideal choice; the Jamo SUB 650 can also be used if full THX compliance is not required. Unlike many THX systems, the D 500 Select2 is intended to be a true 5.1 system; a second subwoofer is not required to deliver accurate THX audio.

In keeping with the Jamo brand tradition of beautiful Danish Sound Design, the D 500 THX home theater system cabinets are finished in a high-gloss black lacquer that will enhance any room. Inside, the story is all about high performance, with speaker drive units that reproduce film audio tracks precisely as the director intended—with every growling low and stunning high intact.

The D 500 LCR is a 3-way closed loudspeaker with two 5.5-inch woofers, two 3-inch midrange drivers and a 1-inch tweeter, enclosed in a compact 10.3-inch by 17.7-inch cabinet that is just 5.1 inches deep.

To provide the ideal THX effect, the D 500 SUR surround speakers feature a 3-way closed dipole design, with one 5.5-inch woofer, two 3-inch midranges and two 1-inch tweeters. Conventional dipole speakers often provide poor bass reproduction, due to phase cancellation between their two woofers. By having only one woofer mounted in the middle of the cabinet, the D 500 SUR eliminates any cancellation effect to deliver full-spectrum sound. For perfect timbre matching, all drivers are matching those in the D 500 LCR.

According to Jamo marketing director Steen Michaelsen, the D 500 Series is the best way to capture the big sound that pins you to your seat at the local theater. “Jamo D 500 THX Select2 home theater speakers bring THX movie soundtrack dynamics to virtually any home, without the need for a purpose-built viewing room. In addition, they’re equally capable of reproducing music from stereo MP3 files, CDs or audio DVDs.”

The D 500 THX Select2 home theater system will be available at select Jamo retailers this spring.

Jamo D 500 Technology:
Dipolar technology: Dipolar sound is distributed from both the front and rear of the speaker— in opposite phase. With Dipolar surround speakers add a ‘3D’ ambience to the surround effects.

Jamo Introduces Marvelously Miniature Subwoofer

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (September 23, 2009) — In order to achieve dynamic home theater and music listening experiences, there’s no question: you need a subwoofer. While it’s engineered to let you feel thunderous bass, the new Jamo SUB 800 won’t steal it away from your décor; as it neatly tucks away under a table or in a corner.

According to company representatives, the SUB 800 is the brand’s smallest, most sophisticated subwoofer to date. It is designed to pack rich, full-bodied bass into a miniature 8-inch cube.

The SUB 800 has an exceptional cosmetic fit and finish, blending beautifully with modern homes. The subwoofer’s exceptional looking cabinet is constructed of rigid medium density fiberboard and finished in a furniture-grade high-gloss black or white, achieved via seven layers of hand-sanded polyurethane.

It employs an 800-watt amplifier, active 6.5-inch woofer and two 6.5-inch passive radiators for deep, clean low-frequency performance, even at high volumes. The active driver, positioned on the front of the cabinet, delivers a detailed midrange response, while the side-firing passive radiators provide good acoustic coupling with the listening room.

All three drivers utilize sleek black anodized aluminum cones to create the best possible transfer of heat from inside the cabinet. The unique, carefully designed driver-surrounds that encircle the cones increase movement and reduce distortion.

Unified line and sub inputs, as well as a variable low-pass filter with bypass mode, let the subwoofer blend with Jamo speakers, as well as other designs, using the built-in crossover or home theater receiver. A 0 to 360-degree phase control integrates the subwoofer with other speakers. An auto-on switch turns the subwoofer on or off automatically, based on the presence of a bass signal. Finally, a proprietary protection circuit allows the SUB 800 to deliver clear bass at all volume levels.

Slated for release in December, the Jamo SUB 800 will retail for $600* (U.S. MSRP). The company recommends pairing the subwoofer with its A 804 on-wall speaker, which also combines a beautiful contemporary design with remarkable sound.

Jamo® Rolls Out 18 New Installer-Friendly Architectural Speakers

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (March 25, 2009) — Jamo® has a lot to be proud of these days. Not only did the Danish-inspired speaker brand recently celebrate its 40th anniversary and launch an all-new web site, it will introduce an unprecedented number of high-performance, easy-to-install in-wall and in-ceiling speakers next month.

The new 600 and 400 Custom product lines, consisting of 18 architectural models total, are designed for installers who want to save time and money and consumers who want superior sound from a discreet built-in speaker.

According to Jill Escol, senior marketing manager for Klipsch Group, Inc.—parent company for the Jamo brand—these innovative speakers are great for surround sound home theater or stereo music listening. “Not only do they incorporate the same exclusive technologies as our high-end box speakers, they’re our most simple to install Custom products yet,” she said.

Jamo core technologies, such as Decoupled Tweeter Technology (DTT), WaveGuide, Hard Conical Cones (HCC) and solid aluminum center plugs are all found in these Custom models.

Quick, easy installation is also a key component of the lines. Each speaker features a one-piece baffle and a unique bridge design that serves as a handle to hold the speaker in place during attachment. The paintable white grille is magnetic, and snaps into place over the baffle.

The 600 lineup, which replaces the Jamo K4 series, includes the IW 606, IW 608, IW 625 LCR, IW 626 LCR and IW 606 SUR in-wall models; in-ceiling speakers include the IC 606, IC 608 and IC 610 as well as the IC 608 LCR, IC 610 LCR and IC 610 SUR.

Every 600 model features DTT silk dome tweeters for exceptional vibration-free performance and woofers with high-end fiberglass/cotton honeycomb/fiberglass composite drivers that achieve excellent vertical sound dispersion. Also, on the IW 606 and IW 608, you’ll find Jamo’s SoundAngle technology, which makes it possible to angle the sound (30 degrees) downward. This is ideal for when you want to place your speakers high above the listening position.

The 400 line includes the IW 406, IW 408 and IW 425 LCR in-walls; the IC 406, IC 408,
IC 410 and IC 408 LCR make up the in-ceiling lineup. These products, which replace the A2 series, feature high-performance titanium dome tweeters and ultra-durable Kevlar® woofers. Also, the IW 406 and IW 408 feature the unique SoundAngle technology as described above.

Jamo’s architectural speakers have become especially popular in the United States. Therefore, the company is using this massive product launch—the largest in its history—as an opportunity to build upon its new “Go Anywhere” ad campaign.

“One of Jamo’s strengths lies within its global design capabilities. We pay attention to the different ways in which the world listens. Our products beautifully adapt and integrate into various environments of different cultures,” concluded Escol.

The 600 and 400 custom speaker lines are priced from $299 to $899 (U.S. MSRP) each.

Core Jamo Technologies:

Decoupled Tweeter Technology (DTT): A mounting system that prevents unwanted wall vibrations that can cloud or color sound.

Hard Conical Cones (HCC): Allows for extremely low distortion throughout the range, as well as creates a very open and detailed mid-range for optimum voice reproduction.

WaveGuide: This technology, which involves the shape of the tweeter’s faceplate, helps control the sound pattern for a more open and dynamic experience, as well as makes it easier to position the speakers in a room.

Center Plug: The center plug replaces the traditional dust cap to make the cone both lighter and more responsive; this design increases power handling and prevents breakup points resulting where the dust cap is glued to the cone.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (March 9, 2009) — Jamo, a Denmark-based manufacturer of speakers and electronics, has completely revamped its jamo.com web site. Applying a new look as well as implementing several user-friendly features and media tools, this online destination makes researching the brand’s versatile Danish-designed audio products both easy and exciting.

“Jamo is a well-known, highly respected speaker brand in over 80 countries and we are taking several steps—including this new site—to develop stronger relationships with our consumers and distributor partners all over the world,” said Jill Escol, senior marketing manager for Klipsch Group, Inc., parent company for the Jamo brand.

Escol also believes that this new site accurately reflects and reinforces Jamo’s brand appeal. “We base all of our speakers and electronics on the Danish design tradition of style, simplicity and functionality—it’s not just about delivering great sound; it’s about how a product integrates into your living space. For centuries, Danes have demonstrated a natural aptitude for architecture, construction and design—from bridges to furniture. At the same time, we have also established a global reputation as specialists in high-quality sound reproduction,” she concluded.

Not only does the site exude a modern appeal, many of its functions have been streamlined, giving visitors quick and easy access to the information they need in order to make solid purchase decisions. New features include highly detailed product descriptions with downloadable photos and matching product tabs.

Once consumers make a product selection, they can take advantage of the site’s “Where to Buy Section,” which easily locates the nearest Jamo retailer in their area. Plus, it gives them the advantage of knowing they are buying from an authorized dealer who honors warranty terms.

Media will also benefit from this new site, as it offers a comprehensive news center and corporate pages that contain all the latest information on Jamo and its products. A complete gallery of downloadable high-resolution photos is also included.

“We wanted to make this site as friendly to the media as to our consumers,” said Escol. “Everything Jamo, including the company’s history, milestones and press releases, can all easily be accessed through the news center and “about” pages.”

Celebrating 40 years in the music business...and we’re fitter than ever!

Today Jamo is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading loudspeaker manufacturers but its origins are actually very humble, small-scale and modest. It has reached the dizzy position it occupies today only because of the passion, committment and endeavour of its driven founders. What follows is a brief look at the journey this company has taken, a tale that can tell you a lot about its ethos and motivation, qualities that indelibly permeate each and every one of the products it makes today...

Jamo was born in the second half of the 1960s, a period marked by major social and political events on one side, such as student movements and the hippie movement, and major technological breakthroughs on the other, such as sending the first man into space.

But far away from the turbulent and rapidly changing times, in a tiny henhouse in a remote Danish fishing village, a young joiner named Preben Jacobsen decided to pursue his greatest dream. With a fine sense of craftsmanship and a passion for great sound, Preben began designing and producing loudspeaker cabinets, and then filling them with the best acoustics technology available.

In 1968, just two years after building his first speaker, Preben realised that he would need a good salesman if he wanted the world to know about his excellent products. Here, Preben’s brother-in-law Julius Mortensen enters the story. A former export salesman in the fishing industry, Julius contributed invaluable sales experience to the project. The two joined forces to found Jamo, which takes its name from the first two letters of the two men’s surnames: Jacobsen and Mortensen. With this step, a visionary company with a pioneering spirit prepared to take on the world.

In 1970, the first actual factory was built in Glyngøre, and just three years later Jamo was ready to take part in the world’s largest electronics trade fair: the IFA in Berlin. In 1994, Jamo officially became the biggest producer of loudspeakers in Europe, and by the time the company celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1998, more than 11.5 million Jamo speakers had been sold in more than 80 countries around the world.

The obvious question is why have Jamo’s products enjoyed such remarkable success? The answer’s simple... this company has spent the last forty years developing new sound products that combine exquisite craftsmanship, timeless design and natural sound... because that’s what Jamo started out doing.
And we have no intention of stopping.

What has changed a lot since 1968 is audio technology. What we considered pioneering back then is now a natural part of everyday life. Now it’s well accepted that every room has its own particular ‘sound universe’... the speakers in your living room need to be different to those in your kitchen. And this exciting development is sure to continue as demand for even more flexible and advanced sound products keeps on growing.

Jamo has strengthened its global market effectiveness by outsourcing production to some of the most highly skilled manufacturers in the world. But our fundamental passions – generating ideas, product development, testing and design – remain firmly based in Denmark.

Naturally, as masters of our craft, we are pleased when sound critics appreciate our efforts. Over the years, we have received extensive international recognition from the music industry for creating products with a unique ‘Danish sound’, a balance of open, clear, holistic and unmistakably musical qualities. A sound so true to nature that it totally absorbs you.

That could have changed three years ago when Jamo was bought by Klipsch, its new American owners, but instead a whole new world of opportunities opened up. In our hearts we are still Danish, and our values are the same as ever. But, with our new owners behind us, we finally had the security and peace of mind to devote ourselves exclusively to designing state-of-the-art products that bring a fantastic universe of sound into your home.

Jamo® A 804 Speaker: A Wall-Mounted Wonder

NDIANAPOLIS, IN (December 16, 2008) — Why buy separate home theater audio components when one model can do it all—and with much more performance than you’d ever imagine from such a slim speaker?

The versatile A 804 from Jamo combines beautiful contemporary design with the remarkable sound that emanates from its bassreflex ported cabinet. And, because it can be mounted both horizontally and vertically, it works just as well as a center channel as it does when its used as a front left or right—or even rear surround—speaker.

Housed in a beautiful black leather/high-gloss black enclosure that combines aluminum, steel, and high density polymer, the A 804 is just 3.9 inches deep, making it an ideal match for virtually any contemporary flat-panel television.

The A 804 also demonstrates Danish audio design underneath its grille. The .75-inch silk-dome tweeter with Jamo’s proprietary WaveGuide technology delivers clean, clear highs, while the 4.5-inch midrange and two 4.5-inch woofers provide stirring midrange and deep, booming bass.
To ensure that the low frequencies carry more punch than typical wall-mounts, the A 804 has flow-optimized dual bassreflex ports.

According to Tamara Douce, marketing manager for Jamo U.S., the A 804’s performances are nothing short of amazing. “It really does offer better sound quality than any on-wall speaker at any price due to the bass ports. And, it’s so versatile, the A 804 is the only speaker most home theater fans would need.”

“We expect the A 804 to be really popular with the ever-growing group of people who want more theater-like sound than current wall-mounted speakers can reproduce,” noted Douce. “Plus, with its ease of mounting, anyone can have them up and working in no time—which is always important.”

Priced at $449 each (U.S. MSRP), the A 804 is scheduled for release next month.

Jamo A 804 Technology:

WaveGuide: This technology, which involves the shape of the tweeter’s faceplate, helps control the sound pattern for a more open and dynamic experience, as well as makes it easier to position the speakers in a room.

From Henhouse to Penthouse: Jamo’s Humble Start Ripens Into Worldwide Acclaim

INDIANAPOLIS IN (November 18, 2008) — It’s December 1966. In the fishing village of Glyngøre, Denmark, carpenter Preben Jacobsen ignores the discomforts of the tiny henhouse on his property and outfits it for an entirely different purpose—the construction of meticulously designed loudspeakers. Blessed with excellent woodworking skills and a broad knowledge of acoustic technology, he begins to develop speakers that attract a fair amount of attention, if not a huge groundswell of buyers.

In very little time, Preben realized that actually selling the products he’s been building is not his greatest strength and in 1968, Preben’s brother in law Julius Mortensen came aboard, bringing with him a wealth of sales experience gained from working in the fishing industry. The two then officially found Jamo, creating the company’s distinctive name from the first two letters of their surnames. Within two years, they moved into their first actual production facility, and by 1987, over one million speakers had rolled off the Glyngøre assembly line.

Throughout the 1990s, Jamo’s stature as one of Europe’s largest and most respected loudspeaker manufacturers increased. By 1994, it was the largest manufacturer of speakers in Europe, and by 1998, they had sold over 11.5 million units. This success also made Jamo a highly desirable partner—which culminated in its acquisition by Klipsch Group, Inc. in 2005. The resulting venture has brought added resources to the company. Today, the business that once occupied a henhouse proudly occupies beautiful facilities in Viborg, Denmark, with offices worldwide.

With their elegant shapes and finishes, Jamo’s products have a style that’s totally in keeping with Danish tradition—and with the precedent set by Preben Jacobsen. At the same time, Jamo and other Denmark-based audio companies have established a reputation as specialists in the kind of open, fully musical sound reproduction that accompanies the unique appearance of such speakers as the flagship Jamo R 909.

According to Lasse Hald, general manager for Jamo, “Global design trends, I think, tend to favor Jamo and the Danish aesthetic. In general, you can say that the trend is toward smaller, more attractive loudspeakers—and discreet, built-in speakers have become especially popular, particularly in the United States. In this regard, the company has furthered its reputation as specialists in providing products that fit comfortably into living spaces virtually anywhere.”

In the Americas, Jamo has focused primarily on custom installed products and in developing a strong relationship with their stateside distributors. This has led to increased development of innovative in-wall and in-ceiling products, the newest of which now use components originally designed for their high-end box speakers.

Hald noted, “Today, consumers can choose to get a small, attractive loudspeaker that doesn’t dominate living space and place it in the room...or, they can take next step and build it into walls or ceilings and paint the grille. Then, you have great sound without having to see the speaker. With floor speakers or bookshelves, the quality of the sound is largely determined by where they’re placed. With installed speakers, you know that sound can be controlled and consistent.”

In celebration of Jamo’s 40th year, an unprecedented number of new products will be released in the coming months, with advanced technologies and their usual cutting-edge look.

To ensure that all of their speakers perform equally well in residences from Copenhagen to Beijing to Chicago, Jamo’s testing literally extends from their audio facilities to their homes.

“In many ways, creating the perfect conditions for reproduction of sound in music and film is like a game for me,” noted Mikael Ankersen, Jamo sound engineer. “Working on the Jamo development team is the ultimate dream position. It’s relatively easy to create bass reproduction with punch and attack and an outstanding midrange under perfect working conditions in the sound lab. But every speaker development project that I’m involved in also has to pass the ‘reality’ test. That’s why I always bring new projects home to listen to them in my own living room.”

The synergy of design and technology has been at the core of the Jamo brand since its inception. From the modern art look of the Graphic speaker to the performance of the latest generation of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, every product accurately reflects Danish sound and design.

AVR / DVD

Jamo turns on the style for its first range of Hi-fi/Home Cinema separates

2003 saw Jamo’s first move into electronics with the successful debut of the multi-award winning DVR 50 DVD receiver. Today we’re proud to announce the next phase of our electronics roll-out, with the launch of a stunning new range of AV separates.

All of the new components – which comprise two A/V receivers and a DVD player - have been styled with typical Scandinavian flair and finished to our usual high standards… those considering our new E 7 series of loudspeakers will find that these electronics complement them perfectly.

We really believe we’ve come up with a totally unique look for our new electronics. All the components feature the minimum in the way of buttons plus solid 4mm brushed aluminium front panels. These not only give the products a beautiful appearance and feel, but also ensure a very stable construction, further enhancing video and sound quality.

All of which means this is a range that will blend into and grace your home environment rather than make it look like a mad professor’s laboratory !

So we know they look great…what else can you look forward to? Here’s the inside information…

Jamo AVR-693/AVR-793
The big difference between the two new receivers is that the AVR-693 is a 6.1 channel model, delivering 6 x 120w (6 ohms) while the AVR-793 is a 7.1 channel device, delivering 7 x 135w (6 ohms). That said there are plenty of common themes…

Massive toroidal transformers and high-grade capacitors
The AVR-693 and AVR-793 feature overspecified toroidal transformers and high-grade capacitors (AVR-693: 40,000 µF, AVR-793: 60,000 µF), for extra stability and large reserves of power.

As a result there’s always enough current to keep a tight ‘grip’ on speakers. Even the most demanding transient peaks are reproduced with life-like accuracy and realistic dynamics. Just one of the factors which distinguishes an excellent amplifier from merely a good one.

Oh, and we don’t use spring-clips… high quality banana-plug compatible binding posts only!

You’re always well informed
Besides the usual status information our receiver displays indicate not only which multi-channel format is being reproduced but also how many channels are actually being output to your speakers.

So if, say, you’re listening to a stereo broadcast in Dolby Pro Logic IIx mode (with all six speakers plus a subwoofer), you’ll be able to tell at a glance…

Comprehensive processing
You name it these receivers have got it. Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIX, DTS-ES (Discrete/Matrix 6.1)… basically we’ve covered all the bases.

Each receiver uses 192kHz/24-bit DACs and sports additional processing modes (4 for the AVR-693, five for the AVR-793) for extra fun, in addition to a Re-EQ Cinema Filter. Users can also benefit from a six-step LF (low frequency) crossover as well as individual bass management for front, surround and centre channels.

Input versatility
Naturally you’ve got a full spread of video inputs, with the AVR-793 boasting additional high-bandwidth component video inputs and outputs. On the rear panel the AVR-793 also sports 3 optical and 3 coaxial digital inputs (the AVR-693 has 2 optical/2coaxial) plus a 7.1 multi channel input for SACD/DVD-Audio sources (5.1 channel input in the AVR-693).

Naturally both receivers have digital inputs on the front panel - a single optical for the AVR-693, an optical and coaxial for the AVR-793.

Jamo DVD-593 DVD player
Styled to match the receivers (of course!), this high-quality DVD drive accepts and plays virtually any 12cm optical disc format, from normal CDs to CD-R/RW as well as the latest DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RWs.

DivX compatible
The DVD-593 also handles movies in the new DivX format. For those unfamiliar with it, DivX is to movies what MP3 is to music. Thanks to its efficient compression algorithms a full movie can be stored on just one CD-ROM.

Component video output and progressive scan
To ensure the highest picture quality the DVD-593 features a PAL/NTSC progressive scan component video output. This enables both NTSC and PAL discs to be displayed with extremely stable and flicker-free images (via compatible displays).

Well connected
For total flexibility the DVD-593 includes all the outputs you’ll need: composite video, S-Video, RGB Scart (European models only) and, of course, component video.

Built to last, styled to please, specified to compete and designed for supreme ease of use, the Jamo’s first range of hi-fi/home cinema separates is sure to make lasting impression on the market!

Controlsystem

In Jamo’s constant quest for state-of-the-art solutions, the company will now be adding yet another feather to its cap in the shape of a newly developed Multi-Room Control System based on the A-BUS* technology. The addition of this product will mean that not only does Jamo boast the widest speaker assortment of the industry, but also – and more important – an assortment of matching Jamo electronics and installation accessories, that meets any custom installers request for convenient one-stop shopping.

The Multi-Room System was launched at the recent CEDIA Expo in Indianapolis and features a control unit that will handle up to six audio/video sources in up to 4 zones and 4 sub-zones. By chaining up to four control units will allow for distribution into 16 zones and 16 sub-zones. A feature that means the system ought to meet the requirement of any home – no matter the size. Beautiful keypads and remotes – everything done with an eye for the lines of Jamo’s contemporarily designed lifestyle products – will be another visible feature of this system.

To add even more flexibility to the system, an optional connection panel allows for 2 local zone sources to be hooked up and played in its own zone and sub-zone. Also, an additional input for CCTV allows distribution of both audio and video from a surveillance camera. The system is based on ordinary Cat5e cables, allowing for inexpensive and non-complicated installation.

E 7 EISA

When a consumer electronics journalist declares that a manufacturer has created an award-winning loudspeaker system it’s a compliment… when a room full of Europe’s most experienced Hi-Fi/AV magazine editors give it an award, it’s time to break out the champagne!

We’re pleased to confirm that the new Jamo E 700PDD home cinema loudspeaker system has received just such an accolade, having been declared the winner of the prestigious European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) award in the Home Theater category for 2004-2005.

Who are EISA? Just the largest editorial multimedia organisation in Europe, with a membership of 50 Audio, Mobile Electronics, Video and Photo magazines drawn from 20 European countries.

At the end of June all EISA member magazines came together in Geneva for the most important meeting in their year - the elections of their annual European Awards. From all the new products introduced, each panel had to choose the best equipment in each category.

When it came to this year’s Home Theater category, the panel of judges had no doubt that Jamo’s E 700PDD system (comprising four ported E 700 loudspeakers, a ported E 7CEN centre-channel speaker plus an E 7SUB subwoofer) was easily the highlight of the year, commenting…

‘The little E 700 satellite delivers a remarkably full-bodied sound and a new decoupled tweeter improves the subjective impression further in terms of speed and ultra-low colouration.

The matching E 7 SUB subwoofer not only adds drama and suspense to movies - its non-vented design, 10 inch drive unit and powerful 675 watts peak amplification delivers the lows in music with a convincing control and fast, authoritative fidelity.’

As the judges noted, what makes the main/centre speakers particularly noteworthy is their use of a brand new Jamo innovation. DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology), an ingenious tweeter suspension arrangement that vastly reduces high frequency colourations, improving both imaging and clarity. The result is a sonic performance with both music and movies that’s nothing short of jaw-dropping…

“The E 7 speaker system conclusively proved its quality when we demonstrated it to the EISA judges at Geneva,” says Jamo Marketing Director Leif Schmücker.

“Despite the fact that the rooms used were, acoustically speaking, very ‘challenging’, the E 7 still managed to sound fantastic, audibly outperforming its competitors,” he explains.

When consumers get to listen to these loudspeakers at home, like the EISA journalists, it won’t take long for them to hear why this range of extraordinary sounding loudspeakers deserves such an enthusiastic reception…

A 7

Inspired by the dramatic upsurge in popularity of plasma and LCD TVs, Jamo’s new A 7 series of loudspeakers – part of the Jamo 2F concept - have been specifically designed to deliver a devastatingly high standard of home cinema surround sound reproduction, using all the experience and technology gained by one of the first loudspeaker manufacturers in the world to embrace home cinema.

With a cohesive look created by the award-winning female designers Smedegaard and Weis (responsible for the entire Jamo 2F range) this series intentionally matches the Jamo HDP 4250 plasma screen and DVR 50 DVD receiver.

You may have seen products that look vaguely like this before. Most, however, put looks before performance. That’s categorically not the case with the A 7 series.

‘It would be a tragedy if something this beautiful didn’t meet owners’ expectations sonically,’ says Jamo 2F Business Unit director Poul Koza, ‘We were determined to avoid the sonic compromises that others make in the name of style but without diluting A 7’s aesthetic appeal… this is one lifestyle product that repays your investment on every level.’

Initially comprised of three models (2 more models will follow in early 2005) these slender speakers are crafted from solid aluminium profiles that range from between 3mm to 7mm thick.

And, of course, they look great. There’s not much point in buying a state-of-the-art flatscreen TV only to diminish its aesthetic advantages by mating it with an ugly, bulky speaker system.

Heading up the new range is the A 775 floorstander. It is a 2.5-way, tripple bass reflex, configuration divided into two cavities. The A775 are 1111mm (44 inches) in height and features two 102mm woofers plus a 19mm tweeter that’s been integrated into one of the bass drivers, to maintain the correct acoustic phase. It’s a great technique for keeping sound coherent and focussed, even when the sonic action hots up.

Just as importantly, the drivers use powerful Neodymium magnets of above average efficiency. That fact means that more internal volume is freed up, which in turn means better bass extension. Power handling, too, is a cut above the norm thanks to the larger than average (30mm) voice-coils employed.

If all that’s not enough, the drive units are anchored to the back of the speaker as well as the front, in order to increase rigidity and enhance accuracy.

The centre speaker, meanwhile, uses a pair of smaller 90mm variants of the A 775’s woofers (still closely timbre-matched) in a sealed box enclosure, together with a 19mm tweeter. Both the A 7CEN and the A 775 speakers offer a wide frequency response, augmented further by the A 7SUB.

Sporting a 10in woofer, this compact closed box design is fitted with a 200 watt digital amplifier capable of delivering a knockout 500 watts of peak power. With a lower frequency extension of 32Hz there’s more than enough wallop here to do justice to any onscreen earthquake!

Despite the state of the art technology used, however, it’s all implemented in a totally sensible, straightforward way, drawing on Jamo’s long acoustical experience gained through more than a quarter of a century of loudspeaker manufacture.

That conceptual simplicity manifests itself in what you hear and what you see. This is a direct sounding system that cuts to the heart of the sonic message and delivers its essence, unsullied by distortion and coloration.

‘We deliberately wanted this system to be visually unfussy,’ says designer Birgitte Smedegaard. ‘We wanted a look for it that enhanced and complemented the beauty of the environment it was placed in, not one that screamed “Forget the flatscreen, look at me!” Slim dimensions and black grilles provide the perfect counterpoint to the matt aluminium finish in a system you’ll never need to make excuses for.’

No doubt about it, Birgitte’s right… clarity of purpose is a truly wonderful thing.

Audition the new A 7 series and you’ll see and hear the proof…

A 320 - A 340

Jamo’s A 310 and A 330-based subwoofer/satellite systems are among the company’s longest running and best-selling success stories but even living legends need revamping sometimes.

So that’s exactly what we’ve done. Using the proven design skills of Jamo’s favourite designers – Smedegaard and Weis – we’ve totally refreshed the A 3 series design and brought it bang up to date with fresh contemporary styling, versatile wall and table brackets and redesigned floorstands. We’ve even increasing the number of system options by adding a new subwoofer to the traditional A 3 series line-up.

These key models are as follows:-

A 320 - a compact 2-way sealed box design
A 340 - a larger 2-way bass reflex design
A 3CEN - a 2-way sealed box centre speaker

In addition we’ve added a powerful new high-performance subwoofer - the SUB6510 – to the range, to enable us to offer an even wider range of possible performance levels. Featuring a 10in front-firing driver, it’s driven by a new class A/B amplifier that delivers an incredible 650 watts of peak power.

So with two satellites, a centre speaker plus three subwoofers to pick from, the refreshed range offers more flexibility than ever.

Visually, the designers have sought to keep the approximate profile of the existing range but to bring it dimensionally into line with a world that now has more demanding expectations.
‘Things have changed dramatically in the years since the A 3 series was launched,’says designer Sine Weis, ‘Low profile plasma screens and LCD TVs have now made their way into consumers living rooms and electronics are sleeker so we decided that the A 3 series should reflect that new reality.’

The result is that front to back the new speakers are thinner in profile and more in tune with today’s lifestyle.

The speakers, which sport a new grille, will also come complete with wall brackets and table-top stands while floor stands will be available as optional extras.

For maximum practicality, the cabinets are constructed from durable ABS plastic and will be available in either black, silver or white finishes. Magnetic shielding, as you’d expect, is standard on the satellites and centre-speaker.

Thanks to the addition of the new SUB6510 subwoofer to the existing A 3SUB.3 and A 3SUB.1 subwoofer options consumers can now pick from four possible sub/sat packages, all of which make a synergistic match with our award-winning Jamo DVR 50 DVD receiver.

Same great sound quality, but with better looks and even more performance options. Sounds like a winning formula in our book…

The demand for discreet sound solutions, with speakers integrated into the walls or ceilings of homes, is growing rapidly in Europe.

No surprise then that HemmaBio, the biggest-selling home theatre magazine in Scandinavia, recently decided to carry out a group test of eight in-wall home theatre loudspeaker packages. Brands represented were Boston Acoustics, Bowers & Wilkins, Jamo, JBL, KEF, Monitor Audio, Preference Audio and Sonance.

The packages ranged in price from EUR 1000 - 1800 - with the Jamo system coming in at 1700 - and comprising Jamo 883K4 for the front channels, 515K3 as a centre-speaker and SU631K3 as surrounds.

It gives us great pleasure to inform you that the Jamo system was declared to be the clear test-winner, having achieved 12 out of a maximum of 15 points.

Some extracts from the test:

"Jamo should definitely be credited for giving the user the choice of fine-tuning adjustments in these loudspeakers. Both finish and care for detail are top notch...
Price-wise they are in the upper range in this test, with a total price of EUR 1700, but this is with some justification. This is a very well thought-out system.

Listening impressions
Thanks to the extensive adjustment facilities provided, you can get closer to the sonic ideal before you have even started using the adjustment possibilities in the receiver. In the test-room we managed achieving a good balance just using the passive controls.
With music Jamo delivers a homogeneous sound with nothing ‘sticking out’ or deviating too much.
The upper frequency range is clear and detailed, though the midrange, now and then, possibly shows a hint of hardness, but it’s an effect that’s really only pronounced at higher volume levels.
Bass reproduction is good, even without support from a subwoofer, which means that when you switch in the high-pass filter it can be adjusted quite low, leaving plenty of ‘room’ to find the right crossover point to the subwoofer.

The Jamo system is also convincing with movie soundtracks. The voice-matching between right/centre/left isn't quite as precise as, say, the Sonance and Boston, but taken overall the Jamo system still performs better. Good dynamics from the front array add a pleasing sense of authority to sound effects while, at the same time ensuring that small details are correctly reproduced.

Conclusions
And so we come to the Jamo entry, the most complete and versatile of the models tested here. It’s an unbelievably well thought-out package with lots of features and a sound quality that, though not absolutely high-end, is still extremely good, making Jamo the overall group test winner.”

HemmaBio’s test conclusion neatly sums up the Jamo approach to custom loudspeaker design. Placing loudspeakers in walls and ceilings imposes significant challenges when it comes to creating and maintaining a homogenous and consistent sound and it’s one that relatively few manufacturers can address successfully.

Thanks to our long experience in loudspeaker development, however, we think we know what it takes to get the best from any speaker, in any given environment. We’re immensely pleased to hear that HemmaBio agrees…

New E 6 Series

Inspiration, an instantly recognisable visual identity and true sonic excellence… these are the hallmarks of Jamo’s new E 6 series loudspeakers.

Designed for the needs of both music and movie fans, the new E 6 series borrows heavily from the technological advances and aesthetic identity already established in Jamo’s higher end loudspeakers but delivers them in a more keenly priced range.

When we say it’s a complete range we mean exactly that - there’s a two-way bookshelf, two three-way floorstanders, a centre-speaker plus two powerful subwoofers.

‘You don’t have to search far to see where the inspiration for the design of the E 6 series came from,’ says Jamo Concert Business Unit director Michael Nielsen, ‘The curvaceous arc-shaped cabinets and elegant proportions will already be very familiar to fans of Jamo’s established D 5 series.’

The E 6 series models are constructed using the same manufacturing technique employed for the premium D 5 series, with longitudinal grooves being cut into the MDF cabinet to allow it to be shaped. Sonically destructive internal standing waves are dramatically reduced as a direct result.

When it comes to technology, the E 6 series has borrowed a few ‘tricks’ from a more recent Jamo line… 2004’s EISA award-winning E 7 series. One of the major innovations pioneered in E 7 was DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology) so, being the generous souls that we are, Jamo has carried it over to this new range.

All of the E 6 speakers use 1in DTT tweeters, mounted in very inert baffles, along with midrange and bass drivers that feature woven fibre-glass/glue compound cones and natural rubber surrounds (the former reduce distortion while the latter linearises the frequency response).

Sonic integration between the drive units is seamless and to ensure the best bass response the two floorstanders feature Flow Optimised vents, one at the top of the cabinet (at the rear) and a second at the base, on the front baffle.

And don’t forget to check out the base fitted to the two floorstanding models too. Looks ordinary enough but it’s actually got integrated shock absorbers to enhance bass reproduction even further.

To ensure that there’s no timbral mismatch when the speakers are used in a home cinema setting, the same tweeter appears in all the speakers. Add in an appropriate subwoofer for your room/configuration (if required) and you’ve cracked it!

Put all that together and what it means for you is an astonishing level of performance combined with dramatically good looks, leading edge technology, all delivered at a until now unimaginably competitive price.

Music, movies or both… whatever form of entertainment it is that inspires you, the E 6 series is ready to bring it to life!

To summarise, the models in the new E 6 range comprise:

E 600 - two-way bookshelf
E 660 - 3-way bass reflex floorstander (6.5in woofer)
E 680 - 3-way bass reflex floorstander (2 x 8in woofers)
E 6CEN.5 - 2-way sealed-box centre speaker
SUB 1810 - 180 watt (peak power) subwoofer with 10in driver
SUB 6510 - 650 watt (peak power) subwoofer with 10in driver

At a ceremony held today at the Jamo stand during CES in Las Vegas, THX Ltd. presented an anniversary plaque to Jamo to celebrate 10 years of a long and fruitful cooperation between the two companies.

At a ceremony held today at the Jamo stand during CES in Las Vegas, THX Ltd. presented an anniversary plaque to Jamo to celebrate 10 years of a long and fruitful cooperation between the two companies.

"Jamo was the first speaker company outside the US to join the THX programme and was among the pioneers in transferring the cinema experience to the home environment,” said Michael Franzi, Vice President, Global Marketing & Sales, THX. “Developing new speaker designs and adopting THX standards has made Jamo a leader in the industry."

Jamo’s attitude towards THX is unique in that we have always emphasized the importance of high fidelity music reproduction, as well as that of movies. As an example, Jamo was the first to introduce a configuration that used a single tweeter and two midrange units. This configuration adds extra body and clarity to vocal reproduction while at the same time meeting the THX guidelines concerning directionality.

Working closely with THX, Jamo has created a robust line of dedicated THX certified home theater systems. These systems have allowed Jamo to offer a variety of speaker solutions to satisfy the growing needs for home theater loudspeaker systems. That’s why Jamo currently offers two THX certified options: the D 6 THX Ultra system and the D 7 THX Ultra2 system.

"We have just initiated a 10th Anniversary campaign where we are allowing our customers to purchase 7.1 / 7.2 systems at 5.1 system prices. It’s our feeling that consumers are investing in 7.1 receivers but aren't realizing their full potential as most are still being connected to 5.1 speaker systems. We are extremely happy to report that many of our partners have seen our logic and have now joined the campaign in selected countries" said Leif Schmücker, Director of Corporate PR & Marketing, Jamo.

E 7

Everybody has values. Moral ones, philosophical ones... Here at Jamo, we’re no different. Except we live by a few extra examples, core values that we ensure are at the heart of everything that we design, all that we manufacture.

Want to know what they are? Technology, Craftsmanship and Design. Three simple but all important words that make a world of difference. We wield the most advanced technologies to deliver sonic satisfaction in packages that are designed and built to the highest possible standards. Pick up, examine and - most importantly - listen to any Jamo product and you’ll find ample evidence of all those values… we guarantee it.

If you need further proof just look at the rave reviews flooding in for the E 7 series. Introduced last Autumn the first range of Jamo speakers to feature DTT - Decoupled Tweeter Technology (comprising five models - the E 700 bookshelf, E 750 and E 770 floorstanders, E 7CEN centre and E 7SUB subwoofer) triumphantly announced its arrival by instantly winning the EISA award for Home Theater Loudspeaker 2004-2005.

Not a bad start you’ll agree… the good news is that the praise has kept on coming, proving that we deliver on our promises.

Australian magazine Best Buys Home Theater certainly saw the worth of the DTT technology pioneered in the Jamo E 7 series when they tested the E 770PDD (2 x E 770 as front, 2 x E 700 as surround, 1 x E 7CEN as centre, 1 x E 7SUB as subwoofer) system last year. Were they impressed? You betcha…

“Frankly, we weren’t expecting the relatively simple act of decoupling the tweeters from the cabinet to have such a dramatic effect on the sound quality. The high frequency reproduction is far more cleanly delineated, so that all highs are sharper and crisper. We also noted an increase in ‘air’ around the highs

Jamo’s ‘mix and match’ approach to using tonally identical speakers has been impressing us for years but now, with the new decoupled tweeter, the sound quality has moved from impressive to knock-out”

They weren’t the only ones who thought so. When specialist UK magazine Essential Home Cinema checked out the E 700PDD (4 x E 700 as front and surround, 1 x E 7CEN as centre, 1 x E 7SUB as subwoofer) it was left in no doubt that we’d hit the bullseye with a system that punched way beyond its weight.

“This is a very powerful system. The little E 700s do a magnificent job of handling serious levels of volume without cracking up….The E 7SUB is capable of pounding out the sort of bass that thumps you in the chest and lets you really get into an action movie.

That’s not to say that this is an unsubtle system, however. It’s capable of real delicacy where necessary and takes DVD-Audio tracks into another dimension compared to many similarly sized systems out there.”

Their conclusion? “A tremendous package for those looking for powerful home cinema sound.” Oh, and a 5-star rating…

EHC’s telling comment on the system’s ability to convey subtle detail, as well as more obvious material, was echoed by UK AV title What Video & TV when it reviewed the same package

“Crank that amp up and the little E 700s just shrug and get on with the job, pumping out a remarkably controlled and powerful sound. Subtlety is not sacrificed either. Quiet passages can be conveyed with a delicate touch and effects are steered seamlessly.”

“A Best Buy badge cannot be denied to a system that belies its size as emphatically as this Jamo package.” Which is exactly what they gave it, along with a 5-star rating (are you seeing a pattern here?)

Listeners in different markets often have differing views on what constitutes a good sounding product but the E 700PDD gathered identical plaudits from French title HomeCineDVD…

"It sounds silky-smooth, balanced and fulsome. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear this superb Jamo Package. This system stands out by sounding both colourful yet subtle."

But don’t walk away with the impression that the E 7 series is just a fantastic home cinema product… this range is designed to excel musically too, as evinced by respected UK title Hi-Fi Choice’s findings on the E 700 bookshelf speaker.

“The stereo imaging is superb for a speaker of this price, with rock solid positioning and amazing width of sound. When bass and scale are less important, such as with acoustic music, you’ll also find exquisite resolution and focus.

“Rhythmical, composed, and thoroughly involving,” was their final verdict on our tiny marvel before they awarded it an 89 per cent rating for value.

They say that you can’t please everybody all of the time but the Jamo E 7 series comes as close to achieving that goal in its sector as is possible. A beautifully built, technologically advanced and comprehensive speaker solution that sings beautifully, has an innate passion for the dramatic and is eminently affordable into the bargain.

Technology, craftsmanship and design - you can take them for granted when you put your faith in a Jamo product. You’ve just read the proof…

Here at Jamo we’re intensely proud of the products we make (we’re betting you’ve already guessed that!) and often loan them out to be reviewed by authoritative specialist audio and home cinema publications around the world.

Traditionally we haven’t shouted too loudly about our successes (and there have been many over the years) but that all changes as of now…. because we’ve created a new Awards & Reviews section on this website.

This page contains a regularly updated database that lists the key awards and reviews that Jamo products have received around the world for the last couple of years.

To access the complete list all you need to do is just click on ‘Awards & Reviews’ at the top of the page.

Alternatively if you’re interested in reading about awards and reviews relating to a specific product, you can also click on the Awards & Reviews link (where it’s present) on the individual product description page.

But whatever the critics might say please remember that listening to audio is an intensely subjective, highly personal experience. Reviews and Awards can offer an excellent gauge of a product’s performance but ultimately we always recommend a personal audition wherever possible - there’s no substitute for your own ears!

New I/O speakers

Competitively priced, beautifully designed and brimming with state-of-the-art loudspeaker technology, we think the new Indoor/Outdoor A2 series will redefine performance expectations in the Custom Install sector.

There’s no need to settle for compromised sound quality when looking for an indoor/outdoor speaker. The series has been designed to suit both commercial and domestic installations. Its easy-to-adjust mounting arrangement makes it particularly popular in retail outlets. In households, these are ideal for placement out on the patio, in the garden or by the pool. The tunes you love will now sound just as good when enjoyed there as they do on traditional speakers, thanks to this new range. Designed by the same engineers responsible for Jamo’s audiophile products these are also the perfect complement to the company’s legendary free-standing speakers… they really are that good!

The I/O A2 series is available in three sizes, featuring 8in, 5.25in or 4.5in woofers, and can be ordered in black or white finishes (both are fully paint-able). For improved low frequency performance all the new speakers feature a bass-reflex ported design.

Besides the beautiful, curvaceous aesthetics - which allow the speakers to neatly tuck into corners and under eaves - these speakers feature an ingenious mounting bracket that allows for both vertical and horizontal adjustment to achieve precise directivity of sound.

And for the first time ever, Jamo can now offer a version specifically for the commercial market, featuring a built-in transformer, intended for 70/100 volt line installations.

If you’re in the market for quality Indoor/Outdoor loudspeakers you simply must hear this new range…your ears will never forgive you if you don’t!

Jamo unveils new multimedia-savvy DVD receiver and new home cinema speaker packages

Success breeds success or so the saying goes.

Success breeds success or so the saying goes. Having won a hatful of awards and Best Buys for its ground-breaking DVR 50 DVD receiver - the world’s first DivX-compatible device of its kind - Jamo is proud to announce the launch of a new Digital Media Receiver… the DMR 60.

Ultra-slim in appearance, this black and silver finished receiver offers DVD/CD replay, FM/AM listening and Dolby Digital5.1/DTS 5.1/Dolby Pro-Logic II output. With 5 x 60w of power on tap there’s more than enough power to reproduce dynamic movie soundtracks.

But, as you might guess from the product’s title, there’s much more to it than that. This is a device designed for the multimedia age so you’ll also find a USB (V1.1) socket for compatible memory card peripherals.

Alternatively, for even simpler replay of MP3/WMA/MPEG-4/JPEG files there’s a built-in 4-in-1 flash card reader. Just download your files onto the card from your computer, then pop it into the DMR 60.

A few moments of navigation through the easy to use onscreen menu system and you’ll soon be watching/listening to your content - if there’s no DVD in the tray it will actually automatically start playing audio files from a connected USB memory stick/ MP3 player or a flash card.

Users will also note that the remote’s equally simple to fathom and use - it’s been tailored by Jamo specifically for this product in order to make it as easy to use as possible.

That ease of use extends to the range of types of disc you can play in this device: DVD+/-R/RW, CD-R/RW, Xvid and DivX (3.11-5.xx) can all be played.

Connectivity, as you’d expect is of a high standard. Component video output (with Progressive Scan) is available as well as RGB (via Scart) and S-Video. A subwoofer output allows enhanced bass reproduction and a pair of digital inputs (one co-axial/one optical) adds further flexibility.

More specific product information will be available on Jamo.com when the DMR 60 is launched in Q4 2005.

To complement the DMR 60 Jamo is also launching a new line of Aesthetic-series loudspeakers… the A 10 series.

This three-model range comprises the A 102 satellites, A 10CEN centre-channel speaker and SUB 200 subwoofer.

The tiny A 102 satellites are weighty, magnetically shielded boxes that pack a mighty punch, due in no small part to the 76mm (3in) co-axial driver that’s fitted. Finished in high-gloss black and silver these are intended for placement on the wall (a wall bracket is supplied as standard).

Naturally the centre speaker sports a similar drive unit configuration for optimal timbre matching.

And then there’s the new subwoofer, the SUB 200. Equipped with a 200mm (8in) downfiring woofer this is a bass-reflex design with both line-level and high-level inputs, automatic on/off switching and controls for level, cut-off and phase.

More specific product information will be available on Jamo.com when the A 10 series is launched in Q4 2005.

As a further option buyers can also specify a package from the newly revamped A 30 series. This is an upgrade of the A 3_5 series loudspeakers that have made such a name for themselves partnering the DVR 50 DVD receiver over the last couple of years.

One of the major upgrades is that the cabinet material of the speakers has been improved by making it twice as heavy as previously was and so more inert than ever. This has been achieved by using specially developed, incredibly dense ABS additive/filler… the resulting sonic gains are easily heard!

There are four models in the range which includes the A 303 (2-way, bass reflex) and A 306 (2.5-way bass reflex) satellites as well as the A 30CEN (2.5-way, sealed box centre-speaker.

The last new design in the A 30 range is the A 30SUB, an active subwoofer featuring dual woofers (active and passive 200mm/8in woofers) and 180w of power (compared to 100w in its predecessor).

A 360

Recently refreshed, Jamo’s phenomenally succe...

Recently refreshed, Jamo’s phenomenally successful A 3 series subwoofer/satellite systems have now been augmented with the launch of a space-saving new combination L/C/R (left/centre/right) speaker that’s purpose-designed to complement flatscreen displays.

The new Jamo A 360, which is finished in black, features six drive units (3 x 90mm bass drivers + 3 x 90mm co-axial midrange drivers with integral 19mm tweeters)and allows users to replace conventional, separate left/right/centre speakers with a single loudspeaker.

A key factor in the A 360’s appeal is that it’s supplied with a unique, tiltable, wall-mounting system. The speaker affixes to a mounting plate that can be screwed horizontally to a wall.

All the speaker connections are made to the speaker enclosure through a single slot which makes for a neater finished appearance.

As mentioned underneath the A 360’s grille lurk six drive units, arranged in a 2.5-way configuration. Yet, despite this formidable array, the slimline A 360 still measures just 92mm (3.6in) deep… the same as the majority of flatscreen displays.

And with a 100-20,000Hz frequency response, along with 100w power handling capacity (short-term), there’s no compromise when it comes to performance either. This is a proper home cinema speaker (complete with vital magnetic shielding), albeit one that’s unusually convenient.

For a 3.1 system all that’s required is a single A 360 plus a subwoofer (there are three in the A 3 range to pick from). For an ultra-convenient 6.1 system just add another A 360 for the rear wall of your listening room. Alternatively, just add individual surround speakers, such as the A 320 or A 340, for a more purist solution (or if you want 7.1 reproduction).

With two satellites, a centre speaker plus three subwoofers already on offer in the A 3 series, the arrival of the A 360 combination LCR loudspeaker expands system-building possibilities even further. This really is a loudspeaker range that has something for everyone…

Initially comprised of three models (the A 775 floorstander, A 7CEN centre-channel speaker and A 7SUB subwoofer) this beautiful range is now joined by a fourth model… the A 702 satellite.

A compact, 2-way closed box design the A 702 is designed to fulfil a variety of possible roles when system building. It can be used with equal success as a main left/right channel or rear surround speaker.

Alternatively two/three pairs of the A 702 can be partnered with an A 7CEN centre-channel speaker and an A 7SUB to create a compact 5.1/7.1 system… the choice is yours.

A perfect visual match for its partnering A 7 series companion models the A 702 employs a 90mm woofer allied to a 19mm co-axial type tweeter, all housed in a chunky aluminium profile.

A dedicated table-top stand - the A 7TS - is also available as an option for the A 702.

With a cohesive look created by the award-winning female designers Smedegaard and Weis (responsible for designing Jamo’s Aesthetic product line) this beautiful looking range is the perfect complement to Jamo’s DVD receivers.

Introducing the Reference R 909… A statement audiophile product like no other.

As the very term suggests, the state-of-the-a...

As the very term suggests, the state-of-the-art is always, by definition, changing. Nowhere is that more true than with high fidelity loudspeakers. As one of the most critical elements in the music replay chain their influence on the end result cannot be overestimated.

The truth is, however, that most conventional loudspeaker designs are inherently compromised… because they are based on boxes.

Cabinets are used because they allow designers to easily generate deep bass. Trouble is that when you listen to box loudspeakers you’re also listening to cabinet-induced resonances. The suspension effect in every loudspeaker enclosure also holds back drive units when they begin to move, affecting dynamics and transient attack as well as precision.

And then, of course, there are room modes and reflections which place further restrictions on where you can place a loudspeaker. Are you getting the picture? Box speakers can produce brilliant sound (heck, we’ve been making them for decades!) but in theory ideal loudspeaker shouldn’t have a cabinet at all.

Enter the Jamo Reference R 909…

If ever there was an example of out of the box thinking (literally!) this is it. An ingenious floorstanding dipolar design that dispenses with a conventional loudspeaker cabinet, this radical new loudspeaker - conceived by Jamo’s respected chief acoustic engineer Henrik Mortensen - is set to change the face of the high-end loudspeaker market.

Fitted with two 380mm (15in) woofers, a 150mm (5.5in) Seas midrange and a customised 25mm (1in) Scanspeak Revelator tweeter, the three-way R 909 employs a 43mm thick baffle with a complex 7-layer laquered multi-ply construction, a testament to this Danish company’s immense experience with traditional woodworking skills.

The huge, newly developed bass drivers employ high quality open magnesium baskets plus lightweight paper cones with a polyurethane suspension. Paper cones may not be fashionable in some circles but they start/stop moving incredibly quickly and can reach very deep.

Jamo also had to design a new midrange driver to fulfil the R 909 brief. Employing a patented Seas Neodymium magnet arrangement, this unit uses a magnesium cone for its stiffness and low weight, both vital qualities for dynamic response. The result is a cone that can deliver output up to 9kHz without sonic break-up, a recipe for an amazingly transparent reproduction of vocals.

Beyond those frequencies it’s the turn of the Scanspeak tweeter to take over. This incredible unit features a textile dome that’s coated several times, along with low-distortion Symmetric Drive Technology. A double-damped chamber behind the magnet system is equipped with an anti-resonator plug to eliminate turbulence.

Such is the quality of construction here that there’s no need to resort to ferro-fluid to damp unwanted resonances… quite an achievement!

The end result? We’ll keep it short… an exceptionally firm bass, with immense transient speed, precision and fluidity displayed throughout the frequency range. Coloration and reverberation? There is none… it’s as simple as that.

Put on some good music, close your eyes and you’ll forget that there’s a loudspeaker there. You’ll be listening to the music, not the hardware… that’s our promise.

The Reference R 909 is a true statement product from one of the world’s premier loudspeaker manufacturers. We invite you to experience music as it should be heard…

More specific product information will be available on Jamo.com when the R 909 is launched in Q4 2005.

A 702… small is beautiful
A satellite speaker in the beautiful aluminium-based A 7 series, the A 702 is a compact, multi-purpose design that can be used for home cinema or stereo duties alike.

A 30 series… tougher and better sounding
An update of the well received A 3_5 series this new range uses ABS plastics with double the previous material’s density to deliver an audibly improved sound quality.

A 360… an unusual all-in-one
A speaker for the flatscreen TV age this an elegant LCR speaker which combines conventional left, centre and right speakers in one easy to live with cabinet.

DMR 60… totally multimedia-capable home entertainment
This latest generation DVD/CD receiver will do justice to home cinema, your favourite CDs plus - wait for it - music contained on SD/MMC/MS/SM flash/memory cards or on a USB-equipped music player

‘These speakers are a hardcore movie fan’s dream - dynamic, exciting and totally involving’

‘These speakers are a hardcore movie fan’s dream - dynamic, exciting and totally involving’

As the UK’s leading specialist home cinema title Home Cinema Choice magazine tests a lot of equipment. Most is OK, some of it pretty bad and some of it rather good. Star ratings usually help to denote the relative rankings.

But once in a while the magazine comes across something so exceptional, of such superlative quality that star ratings simply aren’t enough to do it justice. When the magazine comes across a piece of equipment that sets standards for every other manufacturer to aspire to the magazine gives it the ultimate commendation… Reference Status.

In the March 2006 issue of Home Cinema Choice the Jamo D 7PEX system has been adjudged worthy of that badge, the writer declaring it to be in a class of its own.

‘The output of this handsome system is Brobdingnagian - seriously pro style for domestic use. They certainly sound better than my local cinema system; it’s large and lovely to be pinned to the sofa by. However, the D 7 PEX isn’t for dilettantes. This system is reference grade, state of the art, cinematic joy. I love them.’

To quote the magazine’s own words:-
‘The Home Cinema Choice Reference Status badge which appears in this guide signifies that a piece of equipment is used by HCC as a reference because of its superb performance or uniqueness. In many ways, it is the ultimate accolade.’

Succinct and to the point. If you want a state of the art home cinema loudspeaker system we can only echo Home Cinema Choice’s sentiments and recommend you get an audition as soon as possible!

New Jamo Subwoofers make a massive impact

A good subwoofer can make an incredible diffe...

A good subwoofer can make an incredible difference to both stereo and home cinema loudspeaker systems, bringing extra low frequency authority, ambience and insight. The enhanced bandwidth that a sub brings simply makes music and movies that much more believable sounding…

But not everybody has the same system, room or needs so Jamo has decided to rationalise its range and introduce a new, closely-related line-up of four, attractively-designed active subwoofers - the SUB 250, 300, 550 and 650 - that are designed to partner Jamo speakers and be retailed as stand-alone subs to partner speakers from other manufacturers.

What do the numbers signify? Simple… that’s how much power you’ve got on board, expressed in watts.

Each of the new models is based around the patented BASH® Power Amplifier circuit topology which is highly recognized for offering high efficiency, low distortion, wide bandwidth performance, high resistance to EMI (electromagnetic interference) and quite superlative sound quality.

The inherent efficiency of this new topology means that Jamo can now – even with the high powered amps - do away with the need for large, intrusive heatsinks. What’s more all the models benefit from newly developed long-throw woofers, capable of high-excursion motion and very high power handling.

Onto the details. The SUB 250/300/550 all employ a rear-firing Slot Ported Bass reflex enclosure which allows for a deeper response (without the need for a long port) as well as a more rigid cabinet. Line level left/right/LFE and high-level speaker outputs are standard across the range, as are low-level loopthroughs and auto on/off.

The entry level SUB 250 uses a 8in woofer while the SUB 300 and 550 sport a 10in version and front-mounted volume controls. The SUB 550 also boasts Boundary Gain Compensation, to ensure a linear ‘boom-free’ in-room bass quality.

For the flagship SUB 650 model we’ve elected to use a sealed-box cabinet combined with a 12in driver - that’s how it can reach down to an earth-trembling 24Hz. In addition to all of the previously mentioned facilities in the smaller subs the SUB 650 can also be activated by a 12v signal, a very useful feature when it’s deployed in a custom installation.

Jamo believes the clearly visible hierarchy and logic in our new, high-performance subwoofer line-up will simplify the product selection process for consumers and help them choose the right product for their needs. Whichever they opt for they’ll get unparalleled value for money and performance

Availability
The SUB 250 has shipped in January 2006 while the other models will arrive in Summer of 2006.

The R 909 is among very few speakers that work without a box enclosure, which normally makes it difficult to reproduce low frequencies. So, a pair of high-efficiency 15-inch bass drivers and an ingenious crossover is Jamo’s response to this challenge, and since there is no ordinary box-generated resonances, the R 909’s sound is free of cabinet coloration, stunningly unrestrained, crisp and dynamic.

This large speaker comes with an exemplary finish and superior attention to detail – an impressive “high-end” statement, which deserves the best amplifier that a demanding music lover can afford.

Fact. Even though iPods and other wireless me...

Fact. Even though iPods and other wireless media players work with compressed formats such as MP3 and WMA, potentially they can deliver very high quality sound… but only if you know how to make the best of it.

With a properly engineered sound system the iPod can easily become either the secondary or even primary music source in a home.

That was exactly the thinking when Jamo launched the i300 iPod-compatible subwoofer/satellite system earlier this year, a groundbreaking product that has gone on to win numerous accolades and awards worldwide. Point proven...

Well now it’s time to take things further. Say hello to the i300’s smaller sibling, the i200. An elegant, more compact alternative, the i200 iPod-compatible Speaker System occupies minimal table/desk space measuring just 380mm/15in wide by 95mm/3.7in deep and standing just 125mm/4.9in tall.

Want to mount it up and out of the way on the wall? No problem with the i200. Danish female design team Smedegaard and Weiss (who also designed Jamo’s sleek DMR60 CD/DVD receiver and the sensual A 30/ A 70 series speakers) have ensured maximum versatility when it comes to placement for the i200.

A spring-loaded docking bay takes all dock-able variants of iPod (thanks to a wide, supplied selection of inserts) and charges them automatically. Those with non dock-able 1st/2nd generation iPods (and indeed any other MP3 player/music playing mobile phone) can make use of the auxiliary audio input to get hooked up.

Supplied with an elegant wand-type remote control this system offers a frequency response of 120hz-20kHz and sounds, well, exceedingly musical.

Bass-friends who want even more slam can turn to the sub-out connection, to which they can connect an active subwoofer. The same connection can also be used to output audio to the JamoLink multi-room system and distribute your tunes around the house.

Available in black or white finishes the Jamo i200 iPod-compatible sound system brings high quality sound to kitchens, offices and bedrooms, without imposing itself on rooms. Good news, we think…

Jamo ...

Absolute Sound Golden Ear Award '07

Jamo R 909
$14,000

"This remarkable speaker, which uses dynamic drivers in an open baffle,
offers the openness and resistance to room problems of a dipole planar
combined with a power, solidity, and bass extension that few planars can
even dream of. Coherent, dynamic, extended in the bass (to 27Hz), very
low in distortion, and tonally well balanced, the R 909 does a
positively spectacular job of reproducing the scope and power of
large-scale music."

Boxes have internal reflections, which can make them sound well, boxy. For the Reference R909, Jamo’s engineers have done away with the cabinet completely; there’s just a tall, wide baffle, beautifully finished in a range of colours, into which are mounted two hefty 38cm paper-coned bass units, a 15cm magnesium-cone midrange driver and a 25mm fabric-dome tweeter.

While the R909 can indubitably; the excellent LSO Live CD´s are delivered with real insight. They deliver the rush of an orchestra, and let you hear each breath a singer takes.

Buying a 5.1-channel all-in-one surround soun...

Buying a 5.1-channel all-in-one surround sound system is one thing. Actually being allowed to set up all five speakers plus a subwoofer in a typical living room can be much more problematic…

Home cinema and music enthusiasts who know – even before they ask the question – that there’s no way they are going to get away with installing a full multi-speaker surround system can now get the next best thing… the Jamo DMR 45 2.1-channel Virtual Surround DVD/CD receiver.

Capable of playing a wide range of discs (CD, DVD and MP3/WMA/MPEG-4 encoded discs, DivX etc) this compact 90mm high unit delivers a weight 2 x 75w of power and is equipped with a LFE (low frequency effects) output to allow a subwoofer to be hooked up if required.

Dolby Virtual Speaker technology also creates a wider two-channel soundstage when playing stereo CDs and MP3s, and when combined with Dolby Pro Logic II processing, delivers a virtual surround listening experience from any high-quality stereo source. Much more than a simple "expanded stereo" performance, Dolby Virtual Speaker incorporates highly advanced algorithms and extensive room-modeling technologies to reproduce the sonic spectrum and dynamics of a properly placed 5.1-speaker system in a room environment.

Naturally owners also get the full panoply of 5.1-channel processing with Dolby Digital as well as video upscaling up to 720p/1080i video resolution, to enhance standard DVD quality on modern flatscreens.

Owners of portable audio devices will appreciate the provision of a front-panel USB port for their devices. Once plugged into the DMR 45 music stored on the devices can be replayed via the system speakers or indeed via headphones (Dolby Headphone technology is also provided, to give convincing surround sound effects without disturbing others).

Video output provision is comprehensive. As you’d expect there’s a HDMI output for your flatscreen or projector plus component video and S-Video outputs.
Radio listening is taken care of courtesy of a 40-preset AM/FM RDS-capable tuner section.

And with a standby mode power consumption of less than a watt owners can rest assured that the DMR 45 won’t be chewing up a lot of energy when not in use.

When it comes to speaker options owners are spoilt for choice, as you’d expect given that this is a Jamo DVD/CD receiver but the package that we’ve assembled here is perfect if you prefer a satellite speaker system that’s a little more low-key (near invisible would be a more accurate description!). We’ve combined the DMR 45 with a pair of our award-winning A 102 satellites along with a Jamo SUB 200 powered subwoofer, to create the A 102 HCS 22.

The tiny A 102 satellites are weighty, magnetically shielded boxes that pack a mighty punch, due in no small part to the 90mm (3in) co-axial driver that’s fitted. Finished in high-gloss black and silver these are intended for placement on the wall (a wall bracket is supplied as standard).

And then there’s the SUB 200. Equipped with a 200mm (8in) downfiring woofer this is a bass-reflex design with both line-level and high-level inputs, automatic on/off switching and controls for level, cut-off and phase.

Buy a Jamo A 102 HCS 22 and you can be assured of superb sound and video quality with the absolute minimum of intrusion…

Boasting doesn’t come naturally to the Danish...

Boasting doesn’t come naturally to the Danish – we usually prefer to let out achievements speak for themselves. In Jamo’s case, however, there’s so much good press being generated around the globe about our products that it’s fiendishly hard work to plough through it all!

So, to make life a little easier for everybody, we’ve put together a mini-summary of some of the insightful press reviews that we’ve had for our speakers and electronics in recent times.

Packed with review quotes covering everything from the flagship R 909 to our highly-regarded iPod speaker systems, from our THX products to our in-wall designs and fully encompassing our much-praised Concert series, we hope this document will give you a small but telling insight into the way that Jamo is regarded worldwide.

Here’s just a small selection of the reviews that we’ve been gathering, beginning with plaudits for the remarkable R 909, a unique flagship that has pushed back the technological boundaries of speaker design…

R 909, The Absolute Sound, USA (December 2006)
“......they should be a high-end force to be reckoned with. The Jamo R 909s are poised to become a legend in their own time. And they deserve it.”

R 909, European High-End Loudspeaker of the Year 2006-2007 (August 2006)
”The R 909’s sound is free of cabinet coloration, stunningly unrestrained, crisp and dynamic. This large speaker comes with an exemplary finish and superior attention of detail - an impressive ‘high-end’ statement.”

R 909, What Hi-Fi?, UK (July 2006)
“They slam, they deliver the rush of a full orchestra, they let you hear each breath a singer takes and, above all, they’re special.”

R 909, HI-FI CHOICE, UK (June 2006)
“In short, this is a speaker with personality. What you get here is an enormous sense of scale, far exceeding conventional speakers.....”

R 909, Stereo Video, Russia (March 2006)
“The new Jamo speakers reveal the full potential of classical stereo reproduction. Their sound reproduction opportunities are really impressive and spacious. The R 909s are able to draw listeners’ attention to little-known music, and to cast fresh light on familiar records endowing them with surprising new quality.”

R 909, HiFi & Musik, Sweden (February 2006)
“These speakers sound almost like no other speakers we have encountered. Their effortless and natural way of playing possesses such an obvious
authority that almost everything else sounds boxed-in, smeared out and slow.”

R909, Prestige Audio Video, France (January 2006)
“The most impressive aspect of the performance of these R909 speakers is their incredible impact. There is no perceptible ghosting, and the speakers deliver lean, crisp and spirited clarity of attack.”

R 909, CINEenCASA, Spain (January 2006)
“Their design removes several barriers to good listening and renews our faith in a loudspeaker concept that we always admired. There are no real caveats here and I can’t imagine the R 909s failing to satisfy….I fervently recommend listening to them.”

Where style is concerned Jamo are past masters at combining good looks with top-notch performance. The advent of flatsrcreen technology has allowed us to create the A-series, a range of ‘lifestyle’ designs that fulfil that brief to the letter…

A 70
A 707 HCS 4 / A 775 HCS 4,
www.hometoys.com, USA (February 2006)
“This Jamo system is terrific and gives all of the quality and punch that one would expect and desire in a home theater audio setup.”

A 707 HCS 7 / A 775PDD ,
Home Entertainment, USA (December 2005)
“Each of the speakers on its own is a gem of industrial design, put together they really impress.”

A 30
A 306 HCS 10, Home Vision , Germany (August 2006)
“You’re immediately convinced about the value. When the competitors consider every screw and use a lot of plastic, Jamo conjures art and Bauhaus design.”

A 303 HCS 5, HDMania, France (June 2006)
“In the direct tradition of Scandinavian values such as simplicity, functionality and cleanliness of outline, Jamo has combined maximum integration with high-quality components. A serviceable, high-performance and multi-functional system.”

Our new Concert series epitomizes all the classic core values of Jamo in a range that embraces both music and home cinema with equal success…

C 80
C 809, Best Buys Home Theater, Australia (February 2007)
“And it didn’t matter what we played, it all sounded just the way we imagined it should. It is our duty to point out the flaws in the products that we review, but we are presented with a genuine difficulty here. What if here are no flaws? The accuracy of these loudspeakers was superb, their musicality unquestionable. They delivered glorious rounded, yet precise, stereo imaging.”

C 803, Audioholics.com, USA (May 2007)
“What can I say? I loved these speakers…the Jamo C 803’s made me feel as though I was in the studio as the track was being laid down.”

C 803, Consumer Guide, USA (March 007)
“The best-sounding and best-looking speakers we have seen in this category...”

C 803, What Hi-Fi, UK (March 2007)
“We can’t think of another speaker at this price level that sounds so authoritative while still delivering class-leading insight and agility.”

C 807 System, Sound Vision, USA (May 2007)
“This musical, handsome system, with an above-average subwoofer and strong dipole surrounds amounts to a real Danish treat.”

For the authentic home cinema experience you need a THX-approved loudspeaker system. We do two…

D 6
D 6PTX, Home Cinema Ultimate Guides, UK (November 2004)
“If you want a system to deliver fabulous movie sound for a sensible price, this is must-hear.”

D 6PEX, Essential Hi-Fi & Home Cinema, UK (June 2004)
”The sound is big and bold and goes extremely deep with impressive results.”

D 7
D 7PEX, SmartHouse, Australia (August 2006)
”This system is reference grade, state-of-the-art, cinematic joy.
We loved them. Five stars of five.”

D 7PEX, Home Cinema Choice, UK (March 2006)
“In use, these speakers are a hardcore fan’s dream. Dynamic, exciting and totally involving. Partner them with a grand’s worth of THX-certified amplification and you’re away.”

Want ultimate value for money in a multi-channel loudspeaker system? Then you’ll want a S 606 HCS 5…

S 606 HCS 5, Audio Video, Poland (March 2007)
“The conclusion may be only one: go and get it immediately.”

Jamo also – rather successfully – caters to those who prefer their hardware to stay invisible…

Kevlar
883K4, Heimkimo, Germany (August 2006)
“Whoever is searching for an in-wall for the home cinema should be fully satisfied with this speaker. The thought through and suitable equipment makes the 83K4 the universal genius.”

883K4 ,515K3 and SU631K3, Hemmabio Sweden (November 2004)
“Jamo should definitely be credited or giving the user the choice of fine-tuning adjustments in these loudspeakers. Both finish and care for detail are top notch...”

Electronics? From home cinema all-in-one packages to iPod-friendly active sound systems Jamo delivers well-equipped, well priced offerings that truly perform…

A 102 HCS 10,T3, UK (May 2006)
“Four stars out of five. A classy system, with USB and memory card compatibility providing more ways to pique your interest.”
Our longest serving range, meanwhile, has stood the test of time in a way that only classics can…

i300
i300, Playlist’s Plays of the Year: 2006, USA (November 2006)
“... it’s a compelling combination of sound quality, iPod compatibility, and looks...”

i300, GadgetCandy.com, USA (November 2006)
“The majority of iPod docks are cheap, plasticky tat, but we can’t say that about Jamo’s magnificent i300.This vision in icy white simply radiates quality...”

i300, www.playlistmag.com, USA (September 2006)
“Combine an iPod full of music with the i300 and you’ve got a system
capable of outperforming any of the stereos you’ll find at the big electronic chain stores, while taking up a fraction of the space in your listening room.”

i300, My Tech, France (June 2006)
“Five out of five stars. For a reasonable price, the Jamo i300 speaker system offers exceptional sound quality, mainly as a result of its substantial subwoofer and the excellent finish of its satellite speakers.”

i300, hifi video, France (May 2006)
”.....the sound reproduction quality from this system is very good indeed, and
worthy of the name ‘hi-fi.’ We would warmly recommend this system to iPod users or the owners of any other high-quality MP3 player, or as an amplified speaker system for a computer.”

i300, AV Review, UK (April 2006)
“With the perfect synergy between form and function Jamo’s i300 edges above some very strong competition and is our overall winner. 10 out of 10 - group test winner.”

i300, Smarthouse, Australia (January 2006)
“The sound sparkles... stereo imaging is pinpoint-sharp, and easily the best of its competitors. Bass is also strong, and so dance, funk and soul alike rock and rumble along.”

i300, Macworld, USA (January 2007)
“The Jamo i300 truly can take the place of a typical home stereo - a claim made, often falsely, by other manufacturers.”

i300, What Hi-Fi, UK (April 2006)
“Sonically, the i300 is a really substantial listen. Like the best iPod docks, it goes very loud before distortion sets in, but its key asset is solid, well-founded and truly substantial bass. Five out of five stars.”

Phew! With so much positive coverage to choose from you can imagine that putting this file together wasn’t much of a hardship!

Be inspired by the words of the experts and go and experience the Jamo effect yourself. Music and home cinema will never sound the same again…

If you need a compact all-in-one system that ...

If you need a compact all-in-one system that can play DVDs as well as CDs but resent having to accommodate a subwoofer, never mind several other speakers, Jamo has a compact new solution to your problem… the S 404 MS 10 2.0-channel system.

Packing Virtual Surround Sound, HDMI connectivity, a USB interface for media players and 720p/1080i video upscaling this versatile package comes with two high-quality bookshelf speakers, purpose developed to match the DMR 40 2.0-channel Virtual Surround Sound DVD/CD receiver.

Capable of playing a wide range of discs (CD, DVD and MP3/WMA/MPEG-4/JPEG encoded discs, DivX Ultra etc) this compact 95mm high unit delivers a weighty 2 x 60W of power, plenty enough to do justice to both movies and music.

Naturally, owners also get the full panoply of 5.1-channel processing options with Dolby Digital decoding as well as video upscaling up to 720p/1080i video resolution, to enhance standard DVD quality on modern flatscreens.

Owners of portable audio devices will appreciate the provision of a front-panel USB port and 3.5mm mini-jack. Once plugged into the DMR 40 music stored on the devices can be replayed via the system speakers or indeed via headphones (Dolby Headphone technology is also provided, to give convincing surround sound effects without disturbing others).

It’s worth noting that while this is a 2.0-channel system, supplied without a subwoofer, the DMR 40 actually features a built-in subwoofer output. So, if your system needs should change in the future, it’s a piece of cake to add an active sub.

Video output provision is comprehensive. As you’d expect there’s a HDMI output for your flatscreen or projector plus component, Scart and composite and S-Video outputs. Radio listening is taken care of courtesy of a 40-preset AM/FM RDS-capable tuner section.

And with a standby mode power consumption of less than a watt, owners can rest assured that the DMR 40 won’t be chewing up a lot of energy when not in use.

Because this is a subwoofer-free system we’ve come up with a brand new bookshelf loudspeaker to suit it. Dubbed the S 404 it’s finished in a high gloss black, constructed from high-grade MDF and can be wall-mounted (there’s a bracket supplied) as well as positioned on a flat surface.

Be in no doubt that the S 404 is a proper hi-fi quality loudspeaker. It employs a 2-way configuration based around a 127mm/5in woofer and a 25mm/1in soft dome tweeter. These combine to give the speakers a wide frequency response of 60-20,000Hz, a great performance for this size of cabinet.

If maximum simplicity and minimum fuss is what you’re looking for from your DVD/CD system we think the S 404 MS 10 is a fantastic solution.

New Jamo in-wall speaker delivers high-fidelity sonic thrills along with near invisibility

Delivering flagship standard sound quality fr...

Delivering flagship standard sound quality from in-wall speakers is a challenge, but Jamo believes it has achieved just that with its new Concert-series derived Jamo IW 827 LCR.

Drawing on the same technologies as that have been used to such devastating effect in our award-winning Concert C 80 series the IW 827 LCR is specifically designed for LCR use, meaning that the same speaker can used for Left, Center and Right channel duties in a surround sound system.

As you might have surmised the IW 827 LCR is equipped with optimized drivers hailing from the Jamo C 800 series and therefore makes use of all Jamo’s core technologies. These include Decoupled Tweeter Technology (DTT), WaveGuide, Hard Conical Cones (HCC), Active Impedance Correction (AIC) and solid aluminum woofer/midrange Centre Plugs.

The IW 827 LCR is a 2½ way system with a 180mm/7in woofer positioned above a 25mm/1in tweeter while a 180mm/7in woofer/midrange sits at the bottom. This particular layout ensures great vertical dispersion of sound without the inherent midrange cancellation effect that usually accompanies a regular 2-way LCR woofer-tweeter-woofer layout.

As a result of the layout, with the woofer above and the woofer/midrange below the tweeter, combined with the clever crossover design, the optimal listening angle of the IW 827 LCR is directed slightly downwards. What this means is that the speaker can be placed next to a flat screen TV or otherwise relatively high on the wall while maintaining a perfect performance at the listening height when seated.

To avoid using an inconveniently large enclosure, the optional sealed back-box has been divided in two separate but identical sealed boxes, both lined with damping material. One box surrounds the upper woofer while the other takes care of the lower woofer/midrange. The physical separation means that there’s much less chance of mutual interference between low and mid frequencies.

To ensure the highest sound quality the crossover is equipped with carefully selected high-grade components, carefully positioned and mounted on a thick fiberglass PCB (printed circuit board). Metalized polypropylene film capacitor and metalized film resistors are used in the high-frequency circuit, allowing the tweeter to deliver a crystal clear high frequency reproduction. A low DCR air-core inductor type is used for the woofer/midrange giving low distortion as well as bass purity and clarity

Last but not least gold-plated, heavy-duty push terminals are mounted directly onto the crossover PCB, giving the most direct path for audio signals from an amplifier.

When correctly installed and mated to a quality source amplification the Jamo IW 827 LCR is capable of delivering extraordinary sound quality, a testament to its Concert-series heritage.

Jamo widens Reference Dipolar loudspeaker line with smaller R 907 model

Back in 2006 Jamo redefined the state of the ...

Back in 2006 Jamo redefined the state of the art in loudspeaker design with the launch of the breathtaking R 909 open-baffle stereo loudspeaker. This groundbreaking model delivered an extraordinary level of sonic replay, good enough to win plaudits the world over including Stereophile magazine’s coveted Golden Ear Award ’07.

Well, 2008 sees the launch of the next instalment in the Reference series success story. If there was one problem with the R 909 it was that not all audiophiles have a listening room large enough to accommodate and do justice to the demands imposed by the unique, open construction design of this dipolar giant. The new Jamo R 907 conclusively addresses that issue...

The Jamo development team’s brief for the R 907 was simple... to port the design and the acoustic characteristics of the R 909 into a new, less space-consuming speaker system. The result is a speaker that’s usefully smaller than its big brother but no less jaw-dropping in what it does...

Exhibiting the same sonic authority as the R 909, the R 907’s sound quality is incredibly open and dynamic, with extremely low distortion throughout the entire range. A highly-detailed midrange, with optimal voice reproduction, is combined with a firm, powerful and punchy bass unmatched by any other manufacturer’s mass-produced dipolar speaker.

Why is a speaker without a cabinet a good thing? Because boxed speakers suffer inherent compromises. While they allow deep bass to be generated boxes also resonate, something that affects dynamics and precision.

Room modes and reflections also place further restrictions on where you can place a loudspeaker but getting rid of the box enclosure should, in theory, allow you to create an ideal loudspeaker. The R 907 suggests, as the R 909 did, that there’s an awful lot of truth in that

The R 907... in detail

Fitted with two 305mm/12in woofers, a 140mm/5½in midrange and a customised 25mm/1in DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology) tweeter, the three-way R 907 employs a 43mm/1.7in thick baffle with a complex 7-layer lacquered multi-ply construction, a testament to this Danish company’s immense experience with traditional woodworking skills.

The 52.4kg/115.5lb speaker stands 119cm/46.8in high (the R 909 is 128cm/50.2in high) and is anchored by a substantial 23kg/50.7lb cast-iron plinth with double 5x60mm/0.19x2.4in braces to give additional stability.

The large bass drivers employ high quality open magnesium baskets plus lightweight paper cones with a polyurethane suspension. Paper cones may not be fashionable in some circles but they start/stop moving incredibly quickly and can reach very deep, as proven by the 380mm/15in versions in the R 909.

The midrange driver of the R 907 is build around the same type of Hard Conical Cone (HCC) with virtually flat frequency response well beyond the cross-over-frequency, which allows for a smooth and unobtrusive integration. Although the magnet-system does not reach the same kind of sophistication it is nevertheless one of the lowest distortion drivers in this high-end-class.

Beyond those frequencies responsibility falls to an enhanced version of Jamo’s DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology) tweeter. DTT, a signature Jamo technology, prevents unwanted cabinet resonances reaching the tweeter by placing it in its very own suspension system... push the tweeter surround and it flexes under your fingers.

This hi-tech unit features a textile dome that’s coated several times, augmented with Jamo’s WaveGuide to dramatically reduce distortion. A double-damped chamber behind the magnet system is equipped with an anti-resonator plug to all but eliminate turbulence.

Last, but not least, a relatively simple crossover (1st and 2nd order) employing ClarityCap foil capacitors and air-coil inductors separates incoming audio signals and directs them to the appropriate drive units.

With such attention to detail and craftsmanship it’s no surprise that the result sounds amazing. Bass is firm and deep, the midrange crystal-clear and high-frequency detail precise and unmuddied. Coloration and reverberation are conspicuous by their absence.

As with the R 907 our intention was simple: to give owners the most direct access possible to an enriching musical experience that’s as close as possible to the ‘live’ event... but in a more room-friendly package than before. We think our new ‘baby’ achieves exactly that.
